Edirne Museum
Merkez, Edirne
East of the Selimiye; archaeology and ethnography collections spanning Thrace from prehistory to the Ottomans.
Its story
Edirne's first museum was founded in 1925 in the Dar-ül Hadis Madrasa of the Selimiye; as the collection grew it spread to different madrasas. Today's Archaeology and Ethnography Museum is very close to the east gate of the Selimiye. On display are finds from mound and tumulus excavations in the region, dolmen examples, Thracian-period artifacts and handicrafts unique to Edirne. The garden has Ottoman gravestones and ancient stone works.
