Coast and water / Lagoon
Dalyan Gölü (Lake Dalyan)
Enez, Edirne
The largest lagoon lake of the Meriç delta connected to the sea, just southeast of Enez.
Its story
Dalyan Gölü is a coastal barrier lake formed on the delta plain where the Meriç flows into the Aegean, and with an area of about 3.4 square kilometers it is the largest of the lakes in the area. Thanks to its connection with the sea, dalyan (fishing weir) fishing is practiced on the lake; mullet and eel are the main catches. Its shallow, salty waters form an important feeding ground for flamingos and other waterbirds. Central Enez lies on the northwestern shore of the lake.
