Sungurlu Clock Tower
Sungurlu, Çorum
A 19-meter tower built in 1891 by Şakir Usta of Yozgat, said to have been a model for the Yozgat and Çorum clock towers.
Its story
The Sungurlu Clock Tower is in the district center and, according to sources, was built in 1891 (according to one source 1892) by Şakir Usta of Yozgat. The tower, about 19 meters high, also served as a model for the Yozgat Clock Tower and the Çorum Clock Tower. Its square cut-stone shaft is completed with a wooden kiosk at the very top, below it clock dials facing four directions and a balcony. As Sungurlu is on the road to Hattusa and Boğazkale, the tower can be a short stopping point on trips to the Hittite capital.
