Tophane Clock Tower
Osmangazi, Bursa
A six-story clock tower from the reign of Abdülhamid II, looking down over the Bursa plain and the city center.
Its story
The clock tower on the Tophane ridge was completed in 1905, on the site of an old fire watchtower, to mark the 25th anniversary of Abdülhamid II's accession to the throne. The tower was used both as a clock tower and as a fire lookout. The park around it shares the same area as the tombs of Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi. From here the domes of the Ulu Mosque, the roofs of the Kapalıçarşı and, in the distance, the Nilüfer plain can be seen in the same frame. Late-afternoon light is the best time for photography.
