İznik Gölü (Lake İznik)
İznik, Bursa
The largest lake in the Marmara Region; calm waters surrounded by olive groves, with sunset walks on the İznik shore.
Its story
İznik Gölü is the largest lake by area in the Marmara Region and formed in a tectonic depression. The ancient city of Nikaia was founded on its eastern shore, and for centuries the lake was the city's source of transport and fishing. The lakeside road offers a flat and pleasant route for walking and cycling. The olive groves and villages along the shore form a quiet loop toward Orhangazi. At sunset, together with the silhouette of the city walls, it offers its finest view.
