Village and rural life
Gölyazı
Nilüfer, Bursa
A fishing village built on the remains of ancient Apollonia ad Rhyndacum, on a peninsula extending into Uluabat Gölü.
Its story
Gölyazı sits on a small peninsula extending into Uluabat Gölü (Lake Uluabat), connected by a narrow strip of land. The village is built on the remains of the ancient city of Apollonia ad Rhyndacum; sections of wall, gates and ancient stones can be seen in the walls of the houses. Wooden boats, fishing nets and stone houses along the lakeshore form one of Bursa's most photographed views at sunset. The centuries-old 'Ağlayan Çınar' (Weeping Plane Tree) on the shore and the old Greek church are among the village's symbols.
