Its story
With a depth of about 185 meters, Salda Lake is one of Turkey's deepest lakes and is famous for the clarity of its water. The white beaches along its shores are made of hydromagnesite minerals formed by microbial structures (stromatolites); because this formation resembles the rocks in Jezero crater on Mars, it has attracted the interest of planetary scientists. Surrounded by black pine forests, the lake has been declared a special environmental protection area. The nature park area has a visitor center, picnic areas and a prepared beach. It is also one of the finest spots in the region for sunsets and birdwatching.
