Türkiye's first photography museum, opened in 2006, with historic cameras, a darkroom and a photography library.
Its story
The Balıkesir National Photography Museum opened on May 19, 2006 through the initiative of members of the Balıkesir Photographic Art Association and volunteers, and is regarded as Türkiye's first photography museum. It occupies a roughly 150-year-old two-story historic building in the Dumlupınar neighborhood and a new building next to it. The exhibition halls contain cameras and equipment of historical and technical value, as well as a darkroom. Its M. Emin Tan Photography Library is open to researchers.
