Burhaniye Kuva-yi Milliye Culture Museum
Burhaniye, Balıkesir
A museum displaying finds from Adramytteion in an 18th-century building used as a headquarters during the War of Independence.
Its story
The museum occupies an 18th-century building opposite Kocacami in Burhaniye. In Ottoman times the building had a coffeehouse and shops on the ground floor and a hotel upstairs; during the War of Independence it became the headquarters of the Kuva-yi Milliye (National Forces), and was later used as a Halkevi (People's House). After restoration by the municipality it opened as a museum in 2008. Despite its name it is an archaeology and ethnography museum; coins, ceramics and jewelry from Adramytteion are its main exhibits.
