Its story
Karagöl–Sahara National Park consists of two separate areas: Karagöl and Sahara Yaylası. The Sahara section is made up of limited flat areas at 1700–1800 meters on sloping terrain composed largely of plateau basalts and cut by deep valleys. Scots pine appears on the lower edges of the spruce and fir forests; higher up, around Kocabey Yaylası, alpine plant species spread out. The terraced flats beside the Laşet Stream host the Sahara Pancarcı Festival, the area's traditional summer gathering. Yayla houses, open meadows and forest roads offer a peaceful setting for walks and picnics in summer.
