Its story
The national park covers the young, V-shaped, narrow-floored valley formed by the Hatila Stream and its many tributaries. Transitions between different rock types have created breaks in slope and waterfalls along the stream; downcutting has been so strong that slope gradients reach 80–100 percent in places, and the middle reaches of the valley take on the look of a canyon and gorge. The vegetation combines relict communities reminiscent of a Mediterranean climate with endemic species; bears, wild goats, Caucasian black grouse and trout are among the park's known wildlife. The park, about 10 km from the city center, has areas set aside for day use and camping. Along the valley there are rich opportunities for hiking, photography and nature watching.
