Its story
The Gordion Museum was founded in 1963 in Yassıhöyük village and displays finds from Gordion chronologically from the Early Bronze Age to the Roman period. Phrygian pottery, bronze works, seals and mosaic floor fragments from the ancient city are highlights of the collection. The large tumulus opposite the museum is a monumental tomb popularly thought to belong to King Midas and dated to the late 8th century BC. Through a tunnel cut into the tumulus you can see the wooden burial chamber built of juniper and pine logs; it is considered one of the oldest standing wooden structures in the world. There are more than a hundred tumuli of various sizes around Gordion.
