Its story
Eymir Lake lies within the large tract of land allocated to Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ) in 1956 and, together with Mogan Lake, is part of the Gölbaşı Special Environmental Protection Area. The ODTÜ afforestation that began in the 1960s and turned steppe into forest gave the lakeshore its present green look; this work was also honored with the Aga Khan Award for Architecture. The roughly 13-kilometer road around the lake is one of Ankara's favorite routes for runners and cyclists. The boathouse on the shore is the training base of the ODTÜ rowing and sailing teams. It can be crowded on weekends but offers a quiet nature escape on weekdays.
