Altınköy Open-Air Museum
Altındağ, Ankara
An open-air museum recreating Anatolian village life of the 1930s–1950s with its mill, school, village coffeehouse and houses.
Its story
The museum was founded by Altındağ Municipality on an area of about 500 dönüm (decares) to draw attention to village culture, which is disappearing with urbanization. Traditional village houses, a headman's office, a village guest room, a mosque, a school, a grocery, stables and a water mill were rebuilt with materials of the period. The gardens are cultivated, and some traditional production processes are demonstrated to visitors. With its suspension bridge, pond and meadows, it is an enjoyable weekend stop, especially for families with children. There is also a village market selling natural products.
